Brown Bears Prepare for Ivy League Tournament
The Brown baseball team is gearing up for the Ivy League Tournament, facing Penn on Friday. They’ll play at Yale’s George H.W. Bush ’48 Field, starting at 4 p.m. This marks their first postseason appearance under the tournament’s current format, which began in 2018. The Bears haven’t played in the postseason since they defeated Penn in the 2007 Ivy League Championship.
Top Honors and Achievements
Mika Petersen, Brown’s senior center fielder, has been named Ivy League Player of the Year. He’s only the third player in the program’s history to earn this title, and the first since 2007. Petersen also received the Charles H. Blair Bat Award after an impressive .443 batting average in Ivy games this season. Notably, he previously won this award as a freshman in 2023.
In addition, Brown’s coaching staff has captured the Ivy League’s Coaching Staff of the Year honor, marking a significant turnaround. Coach Frank Holbrook and his team have taken Brown from eighth place in previous seasons to a solid No. 3 seed in this year’s tournament, achieving their highest win total since 2009.

Freshman shortstop Matt Luigs has consistently shined at the leadoff position, while sophomore Alex Benevento has established himself as a key player, hitting .317 and contributing significantly to the team’s offensive output.
Senior DJ Dillehay stands out with 26 RBIs in league games, leading the Ivy League in that category.
