Bryce Heard: The Game-Changing Addition to UD Men’s Basketball Backcourt

Bryce Heard, a talented sophomore guard, is joining the University of Dayton men’s basketball team for the 2025-26 season. This news comes straight from head coach Anthony Grant and the program itself.

Before arriving at Dayton, Bryce played for N.C. State University, appearing in 24 games during his freshman year. He hails from Chicago and has three more seasons of eligibility with the Flyers. During his time at N.C. State, he scored 28 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. His standout moment came against Georgia Tech, where he scored seven points with a high shooting percentage of 66.7%. Bryce was also recognized for his academic achievements, making the ACC All-Academic team.

As a standout player in high school, Bryce was a consensus four-star recruit. He originally was part of the Class of 2025 but reclassed to 2024. In his junior year at Homewood-Flossmoor, he averaged 16.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, earning All-State honors. He also played at Kenwood Academy and Montverde Academy during his prep career, showcasing his skills on various stages.

Heard joins other new faces on the team, including De’Shayne Montgomery and Jordan Derkack, as Dayton prepares for an exciting season ahead.

This trend of transferring players has gained momentum in college basketball. According to a recent NCAA report, over 1,500 players entered the transfer portal in 2022, reflecting a shift in how athletes pursue their college careers.
