Gurugram: Bryson DeChambeau landed in Gurugram after a quick trip to the Taj Mahal. He checked into the DLF Golf and Country Club and quickly stole the spotlight at a golf clinic the next day. It’s clear that he is the star attraction at India’s first International Series.

Everywhere you go, people are buzzing about DeChambeau. He is often compared to legends like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. The excitement has been so immense that the club opened its doors to fans, inviting them to watch the reigning US Open champion compete.
It’s expected that over 10,000 fans will line the course each day of the tournament. This kind of turnout is rare for Indian golf. The last time such a crowd gathered was over a decade ago when Woods played at the Delhi Golf Club. A reigning major champion hasn’t visited India in 60 years.
DeChambeau, 31, is fully aware of the significance of this event. He shared, “I’m here to educate, entertain, and inspire. It’s fantastic to see what India can offer. Golf is growing here, and there’s much more to come.”
With 1.7 million YouTube subscribers, DeChambeau brings a unique energy to the sport. Known as the ‘Mad Scientist’ of golf, he has redefined what it means to hit the ball long. He often entertains fans during interviews and dazzles them with incredible shots, like nailing a second shot on a par-5 hole that lands just feet from the pin.
Beneath his playful exterior lies a dedicated athlete. “I focus on practicing hard. Consistency is key, and I have to align my swing for it to feel natural,” he explained. “If I struggle, it usually means I haven’t been working hard enough.”
His fellow teammates, Anirban Lahiri and Paul Casey, admire DeChambeau’s intense dedication. Lahiri commented, “He has an incredible analytical approach. He leaves no stone unturned, whether it’s about physics or his swing mechanics.”
Casey added, “Watching him prepare can be overwhelming! He hits the ball with such power that it sounds different.”
DeChambeau’s meticulous preparation includes floating golf balls to check their center of gravity, measuring slopes, and recording green speeds. “He needs everything to be quantifiable,” Casey noted.
When asked about his routine, DeChambeau lit up. “If you have an hour, I can explain it all!” He goes through a detailed checklist for practice, ensuring he feels confident with his putting, chipping, and full swing.
On a course that he described as “diabolical,” all of his preparation will be put to the test during the tournament.
