Buffs Rally to Eighth Place at Stanford Intercollegiate: A Strong Performance by University of Colorado Athletics

The Colorado women’s golf team made a strong showing at the Stanford Intercollegiate, finishing eighth against top-tier competition. They ended the 54-hole tournament with a score of 9-over-par (861), competing against 15 ranked teams, including several in the top 12.

Although Colorado’s final round was challenging, they still outperformed eight other teams, which were also in the top 40. Head coach Madeleine Sheils expressed pride in the team’s ability to compete with the best in the nation, highlighting their performance throughout the tournament as a major accomplishment.

On the final day, Colorado struggled with a score of 12-over-par, which affected their overall ranking just slightly. The previous day, they had played exceptionally well, recording an impressive 5-under-par, one of the best rounds in their history.

Despite the tough finish, the team had positive moments, particularly on the front nine during the final round, where they secured five birdies, helping them maintain a lead over Texas and Iowa State.

Carolyn Fuller led Colorado with a 54-hole score of 2-under (211), tying for 15th overall. She had a steady final round, recovering from an early setback by finishing strong. Ellen O’Shaughnessy and Vanessa Ngo also contributed valuable scores, ensuring the team stayed competitive.

Notably, Stanford’s Megha Ganne took the individual title with a remarkable final score of 10-under-par (203), emphasizing the high level of play in the tournament.

The Colorado team is gearing up for their next competition at the Nanea Invitational in Hawaii, set for October 27-29. This experience at the Stanford event not only showcased their talent but also gave them vital insights and lessons for future tournaments, as they continue to build their skills and confidence.
