Building a Legacy of Excellence: Inspiring Stories and Insights

As technology advances and global tensions rise, air defense is becoming crucial. India is ramping up its efforts to modernize the Indian Air Force (IAF) to safeguard its skies. With the IAF celebrating its 93rd anniversary, it stands as a symbol of excellence and resilience. Thales, a global tech leader, plays a vital role in this mission by providing cutting-edge solutions to ensure the IAF remains a top force.

Thales offers impressive equipment, including advanced avionics, radars, and electronic warfare systems. These tools help the IAF maintain operational superiority. The collaboration with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for upgrading the Mirage 2000 fleet is a prime example of this partnership. Additionally, Thales is part of the team that supports the Dassault Aviation Rafale fighter jets, equipping them with sophisticated technology.

In a recent move, Thales and Bharat Dynamics Limited introduced the Laser Beam Riding MANPAD (LBRM) missiles. This addition significantly boosts India’s air defense, marking a critical step in modernizing defense capabilities.

The “Make in India” initiative is another driving force behind the transformation of India’s defense sector. Thales has built a strong network with over 75 local suppliers, reinforcing both domestic and international markets. In 2024, Thales’s purchasing volume in India reached over €250 million, indicating deepening ties with the Indian industry. Collaboration with companies like Bharat Electronics Ltd and MKU helps enhance local capabilities.

Thales is also invested in India’s talent pool, operating engineering competence centers in Noida and Bengaluru. With around 2,200 employees, including over 1,550 highly skilled engineers, Thales contributes significantly to both Indian and global projects.

As the Indian Air Force Day approaches, Thales honors the IAF’s pivotal role in protecting India and commits to supporting its future endeavors with innovative technology. This dedication aims to foster a secure tomorrow for the nation.

In a recent survey by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), 73% of Indian citizens expressed confidence in the modernization of the country’s defense capabilities. This reflects a growing awareness and support for national defense initiatives, signaling an evolving landscape in India’s approach to security.

By aligning with strategic goals and technological advancements, Thales and the IAF work hand in hand to ensure a safe and secure airspace for India. The ongoing commitment to self-reliance and innovation prepares the nation for future challenges.
