Excitement is building as Cadillac gears up to join Formula 1®. The iconic American brand will make its debut as the Cadillac Formula 1® Team at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 8.
During a recent event at GM’s new Detroit headquarters, General Motors President Mark Reuss showcased the team’s Special Edition testing livery. This vibrant design will be featured during the all-team Shakedown Week in Barcelona from January 26 to 30, leading up to the reveal of the official race livery on February 8.
The testing livery is a result of a collaboration between General Motors’ Global Design team and the Cadillac Formula 1® Team, emphasizing the combined talent and ambition as they step into the F1 spotlight.
The unveiling was a highlight during GM’s celebration of its new headquarters. A replica F1® car wearing the testing livery will be on display at the Detroit Auto Show until January 25, offering fans a close-up look at Cadillac’s new venture.
Unlike the official race livery, the testing design cleverly masks aerodynamic features while highlighting Cadillac’s bold identity. It draws on the city’s design heritage and aims to captivate fans while keeping strategic details under wraps. Reuss remarks, “The Barcelona test is just the beginning—we’re eager to share more with our fans next month.”
Dan Towriss, CEO of Cadillac Formula 1® Team Holdings, highlights the team’s commitment to innovation, emphasizing how this new venture allows them to challenge traditional norms in motorsport. The aim is to present the brand in a fresh, engaging manner to a global audience.
The purposeful design features a monochrome theme linked to the classic Cadillac crest, elegantly concealing aerodynamic components while proclaiming Cadillac’s arrival on an international stage. The design incorporates a mix of gloss and matte finishes, creating an eye-catching effect that blends heritage with futuristic ambitions.
As part of a tribute to those who contributed to establishing the team, the names of key founding members from the U.S. and U.K. will also feature on the car.
Looking ahead, fans can expect the official race livery reveal on February 8, which sets the stage for the upcoming season. This landmark moment signifies a new chapter in American motorsport, promising a thrilling debut for Cadillac on the F1 grid.
F1’s growing appeal in the U.S. reflects a shift in motorsport culture. According to a recent survey, interest in F1 among American viewers has surged, with viewership increasing by nearly 80% in the past year. Cadillac’s entry exemplifies the expanding reach of this global sport and the growing enthusiasm for American participation on such a prestigious stage.
As anticipation builds toward the Barcelona Shakedown and the Australian Grand Prix, the Cadillac Formula 1® Team is set to make waves in the racing world, blending tradition with innovation for an exciting future.
