Caitlin Clark Reveals WNBA Commissioner’s Silence After Private Conversation Goes Public

Caitlin Clark recently shared her thoughts on comments made by WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, following a statement from Minnesota Lynx player Napheesa Collier. Clark revealed that Engelbert has not reached out to her regarding the situation.

Collier criticized Engelbert for allegedly suggesting that players, including Clark, should be “on their knees” in gratitude for the opportunities provided by the league. Engelbert later stated she respected Collier but was saddened by how her words were interpreted.

When asked about the drama, Clark mentioned she hadn’t heard Collier’s comments prior and confirmed she hasn’t spoken with Engelbert.

Clark also disclosed that she missed the second half of the WNBA season due to a groin injury and a severe ankle sprain. She’s still recovering and hopes to return to five-on-five basketball by late October. For now, she’s focusing on working with USA Basketball.

It’s noteworthy that this incident reflects ongoing discussions around player treatment and visibility in women’s sports. According to a recent survey by the Women’s Sports Foundation, 94% of female athletes feel that greater visibility in media coverage could improve their opportunities.
