MPs are asking for your ideas! The Environmental Audit Committee has kicked off a new inquiry called “The Environment in Focus.” This is a chance for experts and everyday people to suggest topics related to the environment, climate change, and nature.

On September 5, 2025, up to ten individuals will be chosen to present their proposals to the committee in a public session. The best idea could shape the next big inquiry.

To join in, you need to submit a brief proposal—just 250 words. Explain what you want to investigate, why it matters, and how the government can help solve the issue.

In the last Parliament, the Committee looked into health and heat, exploring how buildings need to adapt to higher temperatures. This upcoming inquiry follows a similar idea, with a public call for suggestions leading to previous topics like women in peace and security and the use of bacteriophages in medicine.

Right now, the Environmental Audit Committee is focused on several important issues. They’re exploring how to balance housing growth with environmental sustainability, improving flood resilience in England, the impact of airport expansion on climate, and regulating harmful PFAS chemicals.

Recent surveys show that many people are concerned about the effects of climate change, with over 70% of citizens believing urgent action is needed. This inquiry aims to harness that public interest.
