Hyderabad: After the 2025 Met Gala, all eyes turn to the South of France for the 78th Cannes Film Festival, starting Tuesday, May 13, 2025. This year’s festival honors legendary actor Robert De Niro with the honorary Palme d’Or. Nicole Kidman will also be recognized with the Women In Motion Award on May 18. Excitingly, Tom Cruise will showcase "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning" in an Out of Competition screening at the Grand Théâtre Lumière on May 14.

The festival runs from May 13 to May 24, with live coverage available 24/7 on the Festival de Cannes YouTube channel. The opening ceremony, featuring De Niro’s award presentation, kicks off at 7:15 PM local time (10:45 PM IST).

Indian Celebrities at Cannes 2025

Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore will premiere the newly restored version of Satyajit Ray’s classic "Aranyer Din Ratri" (Days and Nights in the Forest). Wes Anderson, a board member of The Film Foundation, is set to honor Ray during the screening.

Filmmaker Payal Kapadia, who won the Grand Prix in 2024 for her film "All We Imagine As Light," returns this year as a jury member, showcasing the rise of Indian cinema on the global stage.

Neeraj Ghaywan’s second feature, "Homebound," will premiere in the Un Certain Regard section and stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor. Produced by Karan Johar and Adar Poonawalla, the film has gained extra attention with Martin Scorsese serving as an executive producer.

In addition, Urvashi Rautela, known for her bold fashion choices, will attend, continuing her trend of making headlines at Cannes.
