A driver was arrested after crashing a car into the Chabad World Headquarters in Brooklyn on Wednesday night. The NYPD is looking into the incident as a possible hate crime.
At around 8:46 PM, a gray Honda from New Jersey hit the building twice. After each crash, the driver reversed and struck it again. Officers quickly intervened. The driver was taken into custody, though no charges have been filed yet. The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the motives behind the incident.
Thankfully, there were no injuries reported. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) expressed alarm over the event. They highlighted the Chabad Headquarters as a vital hub for Judaism worldwide. “This building is not only a synagogue but also a beloved symbol of our faith,” the ADL stated. They are coordinating with local law enforcement for further updates.
While the investigation continues, the NYPD Bomb Squad also responded to the scene, emphasizing the serious nature of the situation.
