Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center recently received a $75,000 grant from the CareSource Foundation. This funding supports their initiative, Expanding Access, Elevating Health. The focus is on improving health outcomes by addressing social factors that affect health.
Kurt Stuenkel, president of Atrium Health Floyd, emphasized their commitment to making healthcare more accessible, especially in rural and underserved areas. He believes that by rethinking their outreach, they can ensure that more families receive necessary care at the right time.
CareSource, a notable nonprofit managed care organization, supports over 430,000 Georgians. This grant is part of a larger investment of $300,000 aimed at organizations in Georgia that tackle social health drivers. Their goal is to enhance access to healthcare, particularly for vulnerable populations.
With this grant, Atrium Health Floyd plans to focus on food security and nutrition. They aim to create partnerships with local farmers’ markets to make fresh produce accessible for low-income families. Additionally, they intend to strengthen school health programs that already benefit over 24,000 students and 2,400 staff members in the region.
The funding will also aid the Mobile Mammography Coaches, which provide essential screenings for women facing economic barriers. This initiative is vital, as studies show regular screenings can greatly reduce breast cancer mortality rates.
Jason Bearden, president of CareSource Georgia, remarked on how collaboration can lead to significant health improvements for families across the state.
The CareSource Foundation has a long history of supporting community health efforts. Since its inception in 2006, it has awarded more than $35.5 million to nonprofits dedicated to fighting poverty and improving health outcomes.
As healthcare continues to evolve, initiatives like these highlight the importance of addressing the broader social determinants of health. By ensuring that everyone has access to essential services, organizations like Atrium Health Floyd are paving the way for healthier communities.
