CATA Kicks Off Annual Food Drive: Join Us in Supporting Local Food Banks!

The Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) is hosting its annual food drive, starting now! You can donate canned or non-perishable food items on all CATA buses until December 15. This is a great way to help local families in need this holiday season.

If you’re not a bus rider, don’t worry! You can still contribute by dropping off donations at CATA’s customer service center, located at 108 E. Beaver Ave.

All donations will support Lion’s Pantry and the State College Food Bank. According to Todd Horsley, CATA’s CEO, “Every can, every box adds up and makes a real difference.” This sentiment reflects a growing trend; many studies show that community-driven initiatives foster stronger connections among residents.

Interestingly, food insecurity remains a significant issue. A recent report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture revealed that about 10.5% of households experienced food insecurity in 2021. Programs like this food drive are crucial as they address immediate needs while promoting a culture of giving.
