PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers rallied for a 27-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts thanks to Jaylen Warren’s two touchdown runs and a strong defensive performance that forced six turnovers.
After struggling in recent games, the Steelers’ defense found its rhythm again. Quarterback Daniel Jones of the Colts faced intense pressure and made critical mistakes, throwing three interceptions and fumbling twice. One of the fumbles came from a strip-sack by T.J. Watt, which turned the momentum in favor of Pittsburgh.
The Steelers scored 24 points consecutively after recovering the ball on one of those turnovers. Despite having only 225 yards of total offense, they capitalized on their defense’s performance to seize control of the game.
Jones threw for 342 yards, but his three interceptions equaled his total for the season before this game. Head coach Shane Steichen’s decision to let Jones air it out, despite facing the league’s worst pass defense, may have backfired, especially as he downplayed the impact of star running back Jonathan Taylor, who managed only 45 yards.
This win brought Pittsburgh back to a winning record at 5-3, while the Colts still sit at the top of the AFC South. According to ESPN, the Colts are 4-3, still showing promise despite the loss.
Interestingly, social media reacted widely to Jones’s performance. Many fans expressed frustration over his repeated mistakes, drawing comparisons to his time with the New York Giants, where inconsistency became a hallmark.
Steelers’ defensive coordinator Teryl Austin aimed to simplify the game plan after recent defensive struggles, and it clearly paid off. The defense’s resurgence may indicate a turning point for the team.
The Steelers face the Los Angeles Chargers next, while the Colts will head to Berlin for an international matchup against the Falcons. The result of this game may provide more insight into both teams’ prospects as the season progresses.
