Even with the odds stacked against them, Bellarmine fought hard until the end. In the ninth, they managed to score three more runs. Anderson walked in an RBI, Akers reached on an error to bring in two runs, and Zac Jones added an RBI groundout.
Hoerger had a standout day, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, scoring three runs, and driving in two. Anderson and Akers also shone, each collecting four RBIs. Overall, the Knights amassed 14 hits.
The two teams will face off again on Friday at 3 p.m. ET at Knights Field, promising more excitement for fans.
In recent years, college baseball has seen a surge in offensive plays, with many teams hitting record home runs. According to the NCAA, the 2022 season recorded the highest number of home runs in a decade, showcasing the evolving dynamics of the game. This trend reflects a broader shift in sports where teams focus more on power hitting and less on small-ball tactics. Fans can expect this style of play to continue evolving, making games more thrilling and unpredictable.
