Catch the Excitement: Villanova Water Polo Takes on Marist, Iona, and La Salle!

The match against Iona is particularly special as it coincides with Senior Night. Players Amelia Baca, Emma Grabenstetter, Adrienne Grimes, and Emily McKenzie will be celebrated at 6:15 PM for their remarkable contributions to the team. Together, they’ve secured an impressive 71 wins, making them the most successful group in program history.

Villanova is coming off a week without games. Their last outing was at La Salle on March 22-23, where they finished 1-2. The highlight was a nail-biting overtime victory against La Salle, winning 14-13. Sara Withers was a standout player with seven points, while Layla Canales, returning from injury, scored the game-winning goal.

This weekend’s opener pits Villanova against Marist at 1:00 PM. Marist, with an 18-9 overall record and a 3-2 mark in MAAC play, recently had an eight-game winning streak snapped. Their goalie, Ines Sanchez, has shone this season, earning two MAAC Defensive Player of the Week awards.

Then, at 7:00 PM on April 5, Villanova will take on RV Iona. The Gaels currently hold a 10-11 record but are on a five-game winning streak, thanks to strong performances by players like Sadie Sallas and goalie Lily Morris, who recently swept the MAAC Weekly Awards.

Looking at La Salle, they come into the weekend with a 10-14 record, including three MAAC victories. After losing to Villanova last week, they will face the Wildcats again in a critical match for playoff standings.

Villanova’s head coach, Michael Gordon, boasts a strong home record of 15-1, and achieving two wins this weekend will solidify his legacy further, moving him up the ranks for most home wins in school history.

For fans wanting to catch the action, all games will be available for streaming on Flo Swimming.
