NASA is gearing up for exciting updates about its plans for the moon. Today, March 24, the agency is hosting a series of events at its Washington, D.C. headquarters. These gatherings aim to detail how NASA is working to fulfill President Trump’s National Space Policy and prepare for a return to the moon by 2028.
The events kick off at 9 a.m. EDT with “Ignition: NASA’s Plan for the Moon.” At 1 p.m. EDT, another session called “Ignition: NASA’s Plan for Science and Discovery” will take place. Finally, a news conference will round off the day at 4:45 p.m. EDT, where key officials will share updates on NASA’s progress.
Among those participating in the briefing are NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman and several program managers. They will cover significant announcements made throughout the day.
This news comes on the heels of some changes in NASA’s Artemis program. In late February, Isaacman revealed that the first crewed lunar landing will now occur during the Artemis 4 mission, shifting from the originally planned Artemis 3. Instead, Artemis 3 will go to Earth orbit for practice maneuvers with the mission’s crew landers, SpaceX’s Starship, and Blue Origin’s Blue Moon.
NASA is also getting ready to launch Artemis 2, which will send four astronauts on a loop around the moon by April 1. The timeline for Artemis 3 and Artemis 4 is set for 2027 and 2028, respectively.
A recent survey by the Pew Research Center found that 61% of Americans support lunar exploration, underscoring the public’s interest in NASA’s moon missions. As we move forward, these updates will keep the excitement alive for space enthusiasts and followers alike.
