The Taste of Greektown festival is back in Chicago for its 35th year! This exciting celebration of Greek food and culture runs from August 22 to August 24, 2025, along Halsted Street, between Adams and Van Buren. It’s the largest event of its kind in the city, showcasing the vibrant Hellenic community.
Chicago’s beloved Greek restaurants will take center stage. You’ll find well-known spots like 9 Muses Bar & Grill, Athena Restaurant, Mr. Greek Gyros, Spectrum Bar & Grill, and Zeus Restaurant, which have been family-run for decades. Newcomers like Meli Cafe and Ithaki Estiatorio, a contemporary Greek eatery opening later this year, will join the lineup too.
The festival isn’t just about food. It features live music, Greek dancing, shopping, and family-friendly activities. With offerings like gyros, saganaki, and the popular gyros eating contest, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Presented by the Greektown Chamber of Commerce and supported by Greektown SSA#16, entry to the festival is free, with a suggested donation to help support local community efforts.
Chicago Greektown is more than just a neighborhood; it’s the heart of Hellenism in the city. Home to the third-largest Greek population in the U.S., it serves as a cultural anchor. The first Greeks settled in Chicago in the 1840s, initially landing roles as food peddlers before opening their own restaurants. Greektown grew as a center for the community, housing professionals like doctors and lawyers until the 1960s. The National Hellenic Museum, celebrating Greek-American history, is also located here.
Today, about 150,000 individuals of Greek descent reside in the greater Chicago area. Their presence keeps the traditions alive, linking past and present in a vibrant community. As a testament, recent surveys show that cultural festivals help maintain these ties, fostering connections among generations.
Join the celebration and embrace the flavors and traditions that make Greektown a unique part of Chicago’s cultural landscape.
