This week, we mark the 238th anniversary of the United States Constitution. This remarkable document set the stage for self-government and established our Republic. During this Constitution Week, let’s reflect on the values and traditions that bind us together as Americans. As we look ahead to celebrating 250 years of independence, we honor our flag and the principles it embodies. We commit to protecting our Constitution from any threats, both foreign and domestic.

When the Founding Fathers met in Philadelphia in 1787, they captured a vital truth: our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness come from a higher power, not the government. The Constitution created our government and set in stone crucial ideals like federalism, the rule of law, and separation of powers. To this day, these principles guide us, ensuring justice and the common good for all citizens.

Our ancestors understood that with citizenship comes responsibility. That includes patriotism, caring for one another, and protecting our freedoms. From the start, being a good citizen meant following the law, honoring our flag, and safeguarding our way of life against those who would undermine it.

On my first day as President, I signed an Executive Order to reaffirm the importance of American citizenship. I’m committed to defending this value and standing against those who seek to erase our history and discredit our founders. We must teach the truth about our past, empower parents in education, and dismantle divisive programs in government.

I’ve also taken steps to protect the American flag, a symbol for which many have sacrificed. I’ve signed an Executive Order to hold accountable anyone who disrespects this emblem of our nation.

With the 250th anniversary of our independence approaching next year, we renew our commitment to our Constitution. We will strive for a better, united future that honors our values and celebrates our traditions.

In 1952, Congress designated September 17 as Constitution Day. In 1956, they requested the President proclaim the week of September 17 as Constitution Week.

Therefore, I, Donald J. Trump, as President of the United States, proclaim the week of September 17 through September 23, 2025, as Constitution Week. I encourage teachers and leaders to educate our young people about the rights and responsibilities that come with citizenship. Together, we can build “a more perfect Union” for future generations.
