The Morris Community High School Education Foundation welcomed six new members into its Hall of Distinction before the varsity boys’ basketball game against LaSalle-Peru on Friday. This special event recognized local individuals for their significant contributions to the community and education.

This year’s inductees included Kim DesLauriers from Immaculate Conception School, Col. William Fruland, former school board member Jim Feeney, musician Delight Belt, and ex-Major League Baseball players Ed and Scott Spiezio. Their achievements highlight the diverse talents and commitment to excellence within the community.
According to J.C. Lawson, the Foundation Secretary, the Hall of Distinction now has a total of 27 members. Lawson emphasized the importance of this recognition, stating that it honors those who have excelled not just in academics and sports, but also beyond the school environment.
The inductees were introduced by students from Morris Community High School: Julia Borgstrom, Brodie Peterson, Cameron Raymer, Bergen Paulson, Elise Knudson, and Connor Ahearn. Their involvement adds a personal touch to the ceremony and connects the current students with alumni achievements.
The Morris Community High School Education Foundation began in 2015 as a non-profit dedicated to supporting students and staff through fundraising. It seeks to provide resources for unique opportunities, offering grants and scholarships for projects that might not receive funding otherwise. To date, the foundation has raised over $80,000 and has reinvested more than $50,000 back into various programs, making a real difference in the community.
