Today, we celebrate the incredible legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His deep commitment to justice has greatly shaped our nation. Inspired by the principles in our Declaration of Independence, we reaffirm our dedication to the ideas of liberty and equal rights for all.
Dr. King began his important work in the 1950s, leading a movement that challenged America to recognize that every individual has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. One powerful moment in history occurred on August 28, 1963, when he delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial. So, I declare January 19, 2026, as Martin Luther King, Jr. Federal Holiday. I invite every American to engage in service to others on this day, reinforcing our commitment to Dr. King’s vision and values.
