On Saturday, WVU Parkersburg celebrated its Fall Commencement, bringing together 423 graduates. The event highlighted the hard work of students who completed their degrees and certificates from August to December.

Trista Scarberry, the president of the Student Government Association, delivered a heartfelt welcome. She spoke about the journey each student took and how valuable their experiences are. “Remember, a degree is just a milestone. It shows your strength, dedication, and the connections you’ve built along the way,” she said, encouraging her peers to keep reaching for their dreams.

Torie Jackson, the university president, shared similar sentiments. She praised the graduates for their hard work but emphasized the importance of relationships. She remarked, “Degrees open doors, but relationships build futures. Your legacy lies in the changes you bring to others’ lives.”

A notable guest, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, also spoke at the ceremony. She addressed the role of service and community, urging graduates to utilize their skills while honoring West Virginia’s values. “Let your talents shine, but remember where you come from,” she stated.

This year’s ceremony resonated deeply because it comes during a pivotal time. According to recent data from the National Student Clearinghouse, college enrollment dropped by 4.1% this year. As graduation rates remain steady, these graduates represent a resilient group emerging from challenging educational landscapes.

Social media buzzed with celebrations, as families and friends shared photos and videos of the ceremony. One trending hashtag, #WVUGraduates2025, showcased the excitement and pride of the graduates and their loved ones.

As students transition into the workforce, they carry not just their degrees but the lessons learned and connections made. Many graduates are already seeking jobs in growing sectors like technology and healthcare, where expertise is more crucial than ever.

With this ceremony, WVU Parkersburg set the stage for a hopeful future. These graduates are equipped to face new challenges and contribute positively to society.
