Celebrate Women and Girls in Science: Highlights from IARC’s International Day Observance

On February 11, 2025, we celebrate the 10th International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This day highlights the crucial roles women play in scientific fields. At the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), women make up over 60% of the scientists, including the director, Dr. Elisabete Weiderpass. They also lead key publications like the World Health Organization Classification of Tumours and the IARC Monographs on the Identification of Carcinogenic Hazards to Humans.

IARC is committed to building the skills of cancer researchers globally. Currently, 65% of their Early Career and Visiting Scientists are women. Through various fellowships and training courses, IARC has helped thousands of women grow in cancer research, encouraging them to advance in their careers.

On this special day, IARC wants to recognize the invaluable contributions of women in cancer research and inspire more women to explore careers in science.
