The World Games Athlete of the Year 2024 campaign wrapped up on January 31, and it was a big moment for Wushu. Xin Tong from China finished in third place after a thrilling final push that saw her gather over 26,000 votes, topping the cheerleading duo Allison Hoeft and Sydney Martin, who came in fourth.
Xin celebrated alongside two elite athletes: Kristin Lätt from Estonia, who took second place with her skill in Flying Disc, and the champion Veddriq Leonardo from Indonesia, renowned for his Sport Climbing achievements. This recognition highlights her as one of the top athletes globally.
In total, 22 athletes, teams, and pairs were nominated by their international federations for this prestigious event, showcasing a wide range of sports.
A Remarkable Wushu Talent
Xin Tong stands out as one of China’s top wushu champions, excelling in Taijiquan and Taijijian. She burst onto the international scene at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, walking away with gold in the Women’s Taijiquan & Taijijian All-Round event. Her success not only highlights her talent but also brings Wushu, a sport rich in Chinese tradition, into the spotlight.

“I plan to continue pushing my limits in competition. But I also hope to spread the popularity of Wushu through performances, teaching, and cultural exchanges. Wushu is not just about athletic prowess; it’s a way of life.”
She envisions collaboration with practitioners around the world, working together to make Wushu a sport loved by many.
The World Games 2025 in Chengdu
The World Games 2025 will take place in Chengdu, China, and Xin believes this is a chance for Wushu to shine.
“Chengdu is steeped in history and culture, and Wushu is an integral part of it. I hope during The World Games, people will not only see its competitive skills but also appreciate its artistic beauty.”
Xin hopes the event will serve as a cultural bridge that brings together athletes and spectators from around the globe, enhancing Wushu’s presence internationally.
Inspiring Future Generations
Beyond her own achievements, Xin is passionate about motivating the next generation of Wushu practitioners. She hopes to be a role model for young athletes.
“I want to inspire young people by showing that Wushu encompasses competition, discipline, strength, and a balanced mindset. If my journey encourages more young athletes to embrace Wushu, that would be my greatest achievement.”
