BRYAN, Texas – Every day in the Brazos Valley, first responders are out in the community, whether on the ground or in the air, saving lives. This week, we’re celebrating their hard work during National EMS Week.
Chris Lamb from the Bryan Fire Department emphasizes the dedication of these individuals. “These men and women face intense situations daily. It’s a tough job, but they rise to the challenge,” he says.
This year is extra special as St. Joseph Health Air Med 12 marks 20 years of serving the Brazos Valley. Director Billy Rice spoke about the importance of a strong foundation for emergency medical services. He believes that communication and engagement with EMS administrators are vital for future success.
"These flight crews are essential. They help transport critically ill patients and share knowledge with ground paramedics and nurses,” Rice explains.
Interestingly, a recent survey found that over 70% of Americans appreciate the efforts of EMTs, but many feel they don’t understand the full scope of their work. This highlights the need for ongoing community education about the vital roles these responders play.
Rice and Lamb also remind everyone that supporting EMS can be as simple as driving safely. Each of us can help ensure first responders can focus on what they do best.
