Traci Clemons is retiring on January 5 after over 30 years at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). During her time, she has held various roles, most recently as the IACUC administrator in the Office of Animal Care and Use.
Clemons has worked in departments like comparative medicine, pharmacology, and regulatory affairs, making a significant impact in each. Her colleagues describe her as professional, compassionate, and fiercely dedicated to excellence.
Rebecca Bogatz, a fellow IACUC administrator, shared, “Traci leaves behind a legacy of collaboration and commitment to research integrity. She has not only guided researchers through complex regulations but has also fostered a sense of community. Her kindness and wisdom will be remembered fondly.”
With her retirement, Traci leaves a profound mark on the institution. It’s a bittersweet moment for her colleagues who appreciate her contributions and the relationships she built.
According to a recent survey by the National Institutes of Health, the role of compliance officers in research institutions has become more critical, with a reported increase in regulatory requirements affecting animal research. This underscores the importance of Traci’s work in fostering compliance and ensuring ethical research practices.
Traci’s journey serves as a reminder that dedication and integrity in any field can make a lasting impact. As she embarks on this new chapter, her legacy will continue to inspire those who follow in her footsteps.
