MIDDLETOWN, OH – This September marks a significant milestone for Premier Health’s Mobile Mammography Coach—10 years of service. Since its first screening on September 2, 2015, this program has traveled over 120,000 miles, completing more than 20,000 screenings across 12 counties in Southwest Ohio.
The Mobile Mammography Coach aims to remove barriers to breast cancer screenings. Many women face challenges like transportation issues or time constraints, making it tough to access necessary care. This mobile unit brings advanced imaging technology right into local communities, ensuring that women have easier access to essential screenings.
“When we launched the Mobile Mammography Coach, our goal was clear: to bring high-quality screenings to those who need them most,” shares Theresa Gustafson, the system manager of breast imaging at Premier Health. “Many women tell us they would have missed their mammograms without this service.”
Tracy Short, system director of ambulatory outpatient imaging, emphasizes the importance of convenience, stating, “We take screenings to workplaces and community events, making it easier for women to prioritize their health without extra hassle.” This approach allows women to get screened without sacrificing a day of work or arranging childcare.
According to the Ohio Department of Health, rates of breast cancer in several counties around Southwest Ohio exceed state and national averages. “These statistics highlight the urgency of early detection,” Rhonda Seidenschmidt, system vice president of ambulatory services, affirms. “Bringing mammography to neighborhoods is vital in closing the care gap.”
Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women in the U.S. and poses significant health risks. Consistent screening can lead to early detection, which is crucial for effective treatment.
Equipped with the same advanced technology as Premier Health’s facilities, the Mobile Mammography Coach offers a comfortable environment for patients. It includes a reception area, private dressing rooms, and a mammography suite. Women aged 40 and older can undergo screening without a doctor’s order, provided they have a healthcare provider to discuss results with.
The Mobile Mammography Coach represents a crucial step toward ensuring that women in underserved areas receive the care they need. This initiative not only focuses on health but also builds a supportive community environment. It’s a perfect example of how mobile health solutions can enhance care accessibility.
