Memorial Day is a great time to relax, grill, and enjoy time with loved ones. But if you’re looking for something different, why not check out the Greater Pittsburgh Food Truck Festival? Held at the Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, this popular event runs from Friday to Sunday and brings together tasty food trucks, craft vendors, live music, and family-friendly fun.
Celebrating its tenth year, the festival started as a small idea among local organizers. Carole DeAngelo, who helps run the event, recalls how it began. “We saw success with another festival and thought, why not try a food truck festival?” she shared. What kicked off with just 20 food trucks is now a lively gathering with over 50 participating this year!
The food choices have expanded too. Initially, they offered favorites like pizza and hot dogs. Now, you can find everything from tacos and seafood to sweet treats and gourmet coffee. “It shows how much the food truck scene has evolved,” DeAngelo noted.
Entertainment has grown as well. The kids’ area has turned into a full activity zone, making it a fun outing for families. Natalie Gatten, who has been a vendor since day one, mentioned how the festival’s community vibe is special. “It’s a blend of excitement and joy,” she said, highlighting her delicious hot dogs like the “Sword Dog.”
Looking ahead, the festival aims to keep evolving. DeAngelo emphasized the importance of teamwork. “Our success comes from the support of the Meadows, our sponsors, and the community,” she said. They’re also adding a Ferris wheel this year, free for attendees, to enhance the experience.
The festival is more than just food; it’s about building connections. It supports nonprofits, showing how partnerships can bring joy to everyone involved. As the festival enters its second decade, it continues to thrive, thanks to the dedication of its team and the love from the community.
So, whether you’re a fan of savory dishes or sweet snacks, this festival has something for everyone. It’s a wonderful way to kick off summer and enjoy good food with great people.
