A special food award will be presented in honor of the late TV chef Dave Myers. He was well-loved and passed away from cancer in February 2024. Myers is best known as one half of the Hairy Bikers, alongside Si King.
The annual Cumbria Food Awards will pay tribute to him by renaming its top prize the Dave Myers Cumbrian Food and Drink Hero trophy. Co-organizer Michaela Robinson-Tate described Myers as a “very special person” who took great pride in his home county and its rich food culture. He even hosted the first awards event in 2022.
This year’s awards will take place on March 20 at Kendal College, featuring TV chef Matt Tebbutt from BBC’s Saturday Kitchen as host.
Myers’ widow, Lili, expressed that naming the trophy after him “meant the world” and highlighted how appreciated he was. The award will be presented at a gala evening that will welcome 165 finalists, sponsors, and special guests.
Robinson-Tate emphasized that Myers’ support for Cumbria and the awards will always be remembered. She expressed gratitude to Lili for her involvement and support of the tribute.
In addition to the awards, a charity motorcycle rally called Dave Day is set to return in June, celebrating his legacy further.
