On April 9, 2026, Oakland University welcomed 19 remarkable undergraduate students into Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), an international business honor society. To qualify, students must excel academically, ranking in the top 10% of undergraduates or the top 20% of graduate students in their business field.
BGS is recognized globally for celebrating outstanding business students. Membership is prestigious, extending to individuals from AACSB-accredited schools, which represent the top 5% of business programs worldwide. This network connects members to successful business leaders and fosters a commitment to excellence and integrity.
The OU chapter has achieved “Highest Honors” several times, showcasing its dedication to nurturing future business leaders. “Beta Gamma Sigma is a meaningful recognition of the hard work our students put in,” said Karen Person, assistant director of experiential programs. “We are proud to celebrate their achievements and support their growth.”
This year, the Beta Gamma Sigma $1,000 Honor Roll Scholarship was awarded to Peyton Werner, who maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA in accounting and finance. Her commitment to academic success and leadership is evident through her active participation in BGS and various student organizations, alongside her internship experiences.

The leadership of the OU Beta Gamma Sigma executive board has played a vital role in guiding these students. The president, Joanna Polyzois, along with vice president Anna Akrawi, treasurer Faith Lee, former treasurer Camila Carbajal, secretary Peyton Werner, and marketing chair Madisen Craig, have shown exceptional dedication to their peers and the chapter.
In recent years, the emphasis on recognizing academic and leadership excellence has become even more important. According to a survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, 73% of employers prioritize candidates with leadership experience. This trend makes organizations like BGS crucial for students aiming to stand out in today’s competitive job market.
As we celebrate these achievements, it’s clear that membership in Beta Gamma Sigma not only honors academic excellence but also prepares students for a promising future in the business world.
