BELLEFONTE — The Breiner School of Nursing at Commonwealth University recently celebrated its graduating Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) students with a heartfelt pinning ceremony. Held on May 14 in the Bald Eagle Area High School auditorium, the event marked an important milestone for the graduates from Clearfield and Lock Haven campuses.
During the ceremony, the students pledged their oath to nursing and were proudly presented with their pins. Honors students were also recognized with cords. Dr. Darlene Ardary, an associate professor, led the event, while class president Chloe Neal from Reynoldsville spoke to the audience. “The pinning ceremony is more than just a tradition,” Dr. Ardary noted. “It symbolizes the dedication and resilience that nurses embody, and it highlights the important care they will provide in our communities.”
Healthcare needs are changing, especially in rural areas where registered nurses (RNs) are in high demand. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the nursing field is expected to grow by 6% from 2021 to 2031, adding roughly 195,000 new jobs each year. As these graduates step into their new roles, they will play a critical part in meeting this growing need.
As part of the ceremony, graduates included: Holly Alterio from Bellefonte, Benjamin Babakov from New Columbia, Abby Bradley from Mill Hall, and many others. Each pin received represents their hard work and commitment to serving their communities. With these new nurses entering the field, many patients can look forward to receiving much-needed care, especially in underserved areas.
Graduates and their families expressed a mix of pride and excitement. Social media posts were filled with congratulations and well wishes, showing strong community support. As nursing continues to evolve, these new professionals are ready to embrace their roles with compassion and skill.
