The Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs recently announced the winners of the Military Health System Communications Awards. These awards celebrate outstanding achievements in communicating health information within the military. The winners represent some of the best storytellers in military health, and they will move on to compete in the Defense Media Merit Awards.
The MHS Communications Awards recognize talent across various categories, including photography, videography, writing, and multimedia. Each year, military health communicators help educate service members and the public about important health issues. This ensures that accurate and timely information reaches those who need it most.
Dr. Stephen L. Ferrara, the Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, praised this year’s winners for their dedication. He noted that their work not only informs but also builds trust in the Military Health System. Competing at the Defense Media Merit Awards highlights the exceptional skills of these communicators.
This year’s MHS winners, selected from 20 different categories, include:

- Civilian Videographer of the Year: Jorge Gomez, Irwin Army Community Hospital, Fort Riley, Kansas
- Communicator of the Year: Jason W. Edwards, Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas
- Commentary: Jean Graves, Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital, Fort Johnson, Louisiana
