Celebrating Excellence: University of Birmingham Quartet Honored in King’s Birthday Honours

Four individuals affiliated with the University of Birmingham recently received recognition in the King’s Birthday Honours. Professor Rachel K. O’Reilly, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, received an MBE for her contributions to chemistry. Professor Fang Gao, an expert in Anaesthesia and Critical Care, was honored with an OBE for his work in anaesthesia.

Aruna Mistry, a former laboratory manager at the Collaborative Teaching Laboratory, received the British Empire Medal for her dedication to education. Additionally, Bridget Eickhoff, an Honorary Professor of Railway Interface Engineering, also received an MBE for her work in railway engineering.

Professor Adam Tickell, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, expressed pride in their achievements. He noted that their commitment to education and research is truly inspiring.

Professor O’Reilly’s background is impressive. Before her role at Birmingham, she completed her PhD at Imperial College London and held positions at universities in the US, Cambridge, and Warwick. Since becoming PVC (Research) in 2023, she has led the university in securing over £250 million in research funding. Under her guidance, Birmingham climbed to 31st in the QS World University Rankings for International Research Network, highlighting its global research collaboration.
