PITTSFORD, N.Y. — This past Friday, over 70 first-year students celebrated a big milestone at the White Coat Ceremony at the Wegmans School of Pharmacy, St. John Fisher University.
The white coat is much more than a piece of clothing; it represents commitment to health care and service. As the students donned their coats, they stepped into the pharmacy profession with pride and excitement.
Victoria Liguori, one of the students, shared her joy: “It’s a dream come true after four years of hard work.” Shachyah Lewis echoed this sentiment, expressing hope for a smooth journey ahead. “I want us all to succeed and become the best pharmacists we can be,” she said.
During the ceremony, the class of 2029 also recited the Oath of a Pharmacist, solidifying their ethical commitment to the profession.
Pharmacy plays a crucial role in healthcare. According to the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, around 90% of Americans live within five miles of a pharmacy. This accessibility highlights the importance of pharmacists in providing care and advice to communities.
The ceremony marked the beginning of their academic journey. In a world where healthcare evolves rapidly, these students are entering at a pivotal time. With the rise of telehealth and personalized medicine, pharmacists are stepping into varied roles beyond filling prescriptions. They now also engage in patient education, disease prevention, and health management.
