Celebrating Genius: Lord Bilimoria Praises Indian Intelligence at the Rising Bharat Summit 2025

British-Indian entrepreneur Lord Karan Bilimoria recently shared his optimistic view on India’s growing global influence at the News18 Rising Bharat Summit 2025 in Delhi. He highlighted India as a center of intellectual and technological excellence, mentioning how the world increasingly recognizes the talents of Indians in leadership roles worldwide, from Silicon Valley to the UK government.

Bilimoria emphasized the change that began with India’s economic liberalization in 1991. He pointed out that after a slow start, the economy began to soar around 2002, reaching remarkable growth rates. Today, India stands out as the fastest-growing major economy, with growth exceeding 6% annually.

A significant part of his talk focused on how Indians are perceived abroad. "People see Indians as the cleverest," Bilimoria stated, underscoring the importance of education in shaping this view. He compared the UK’s educational achievements to India’s, particularly highlighting the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Every year, about 1.5 million students aim to enter these prestigious institutions, showcasing the country’s commitment to STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

Bilimoria also reflected on his own educational background at the Hyderabad Public School, mentioning successful alumni like Satya Nadella of Microsoft and Ajay Banga, head of the World Bank. Such figures underscore India’s contribution to global leadership.

Another crucial point Bilimoria raised was the resurgence of India’s entrepreneurial spirit. After years of restrictions, Indian entrepreneurs are now making major contributions to markets everywhere, from startups to established multinational companies.

In a 2021 report by the World Economic Forum, it was noted that India is home to the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world, with more than 60,000 startups recognized. This surge represents a significant shift in how India is viewed on the global stage and illustrates its dynamic role in technology and innovation.

The combination of a rich educational tradition and a growing entrepreneurial landscape positions India as a formidable player in today’s economy. As Bilimoria aptly put it, there are lessons the UK and the rest of the world can learn from India’s success story.
