The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) recently celebrated students involved in the second edition of the 2025 Summer Environmental Club. This event recognized not just the students, but also their sponsors, teachers, and environmental leaders who played a pivotal role in the program.
Over two weeks, 20 students attended lectures, workshops, and took part in hands-on activities and field visits aimed at deepening their understanding of environmental sustainability and climate change.
HE Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, emphasized that this initiative is crucial for raising awareness among young people about pressing environmental issues. He noted how engaged the participants were, highlighting their awareness of the need to safeguard Qatar’s environment. This aligns with the broader goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, which seeks sustainable development.
The program’s success is attributed in part to collaboration with partners like the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Their support, along with that of dedicated lecturers and supervisors, helped make environmental concepts accessible and relatable for the students.
At the ceremony, students received certificates and commemorative awards for their contributions, marking the end of a successful program. This type of initiative not only educates the youth but also empowers them to take action for a sustainable future.
Interestingly, surveys suggest that youth today are more environmentally conscious than ever. According to a recent study by Pew Research Center, over 75% of young adults believe climate change is a major threat. Programs like the Summer Environmental Club provide essential platforms to channel this concern into action.
As the world grapples with environmental challenges, engaging youth is more important than ever. They are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they’re also the activists of today, ready to make a difference in their communities.
