Celebrating SGMC Health’s Unsung Heroes: The Switchboard Team’s Impact on Patient Care
Team members recognized as Health System Heroes.

SGMC Health recently celebrated its dedicated switchboard operators as Health System Heroes. During the Board of Directors meeting, Latacha Barron, Feiona Gross, Kimberly Jackson, Erika Lee, and Priscilla Shipman received accolades for their vital role in daily operations.

The switchboard operates 24/7, handling over 250,000 calls each year. That’s an impressive average of 22,000 calls every month! Their main job is to ensure that calls get directed to the right departments, which is essential for connecting patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

But their job doesn’t stop at call management. They are crucial during emergencies, activating safety protocols to keep everyone safe and informed. They also monitor critical systems like generators and medical gases, showing just how important they are to the hospital’s operations.

Thanks to the switchboard team, doctors can communicate effectively, leading to better patient care. From providing info about patients to guiding visitors and managing on-call schedules, they are a dependable support for all.

“The Switchboard Team is the heart of communication at SGMC Health,” said Hilary Gibbs, VP of Support Services. “Their dedication and commitment to excellence ensure our healthcare system runs smoothly. We truly appreciate their hard work.”

Board members also expressed their gratitude. Dr. Brian Griner, Dr. Elizabeth Flail, and retired nurse Shirley Garland acknowledged that the team helps ensure patients receive timely and safe care. The switchboard team received a well-deserved standing ovation from everyone present.

SGMC Health is committed to recognizing outstanding employees who exemplify its values of “Remarkable People, Extraordinary Care, Human Kindness.”
