“Celebrating Success: IIT Madras Convocation Honors 3,000 Graduates with Degrees”

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) recently celebrated its 62nd Convocation on July 11, where it awarded degrees to 3,227 students. In total, the institute featured 3,661 degrees, including joint and dual degrees, with 529 of those being doctoral degrees, which included collaborations with international institutions from countries like Australia and Germany.

Ajit Doval, India’s National Security Advisor, attended as a special guest. He praised the graduates, emphasizing the unique opportunities this generation has. “You are among the luckiest in a thousand years of Indian history,” he noted. Doval highlighted India’s rapid economic growth, along with the advancements in infrastructure and support systems that institutions are building. He encouraged graduates to leverage their global network but reminded them that real success comes from contributing meaningfully, regardless of where they are.

Dr. Pawan Goenka, the chair of the board of governors, and Professor V. Kamakoti, the institute’s director, also played key roles at the event. The degrees awarded included various programs: 820 B.Tech, 711 M.Tech, and 312 dual degree B.Tech graduates, among others.

Honors were given for exceptional achievements, such as the President of India Prize for top academic performers. This year’s event echoes a broader trend of emphasis on academic excellence and holistic development among students, reflecting evolving educational priorities.

Data from recent surveys suggest that institutions focusing on student development see higher satisfaction rates, reaffirming the value of recognizing both academic and extracurricular achievements. The growing alumni network from IIT Madras serves as a powerful resource for graduates, establishing paths for collaboration across borders.

As graduates step into a dynamic world, their contributions may shape not only their future but also the narrative of India’s development in the coming years. For further details on IIT Madras and its recent initiatives, visit their official website.
