Celebrating Success: Spotlight on FSU’s Inspiring Class of 2025 Graduates

As the spring 2025 semester winds down, Florida State University is set to celebrate a remarkable milestone—its largest graduating class ever, with 8,926 degrees to be awarded. The commencement ceremonies on May 2-3 at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center will highlight the resilience and determination of these students, especially following the challenges of recent events.

Graduates have shown incredible perseverance through their academic journeys. They’ve engaged in innovative research and community initiatives, making a positive mark both on campus and beyond.

Take Rylee Digges, for example. A first-generation college student from Freeport, Florida, she is earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Rylee has close ties to FSU, thanks to family connections. Initially considering pre-med, she found her passion in nursing.

“The bond between a nurse and a patient is deeper," Rylee said. She aims to enhance women’s health care in rural areas, ensuring critical services like pap smears and mammograms are accessible.

Yudan Chen, another standout, is finishing his doctorate in chemistry, focusing on solid-state batteries. This technology is pivotal for energy storage as we strive for a more sustainable future. Originally from Chongqing, China, Yudan has made significant contributions to research, leading to multiple publications and even a pending patent. “I want to help drive innovations that support energy efficiency,” he stated.

Jamir Watkins, a guard for the FSU men’s basketball team, is completing a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Social Science. He has achieved All-ACC honors and led the Seminoles in scoring. Jamir wears No. 1 on his jersey not just for performance, but as a commitment to become the first in his family to earn a college degree. “It’s a blessing,” he expressed, emphasizing the impact his journey can have on younger family members.

Samantha Haas, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art, has carved out her niche in photography. She transferred to FSU to continue a family legacy and aims to become a wildlife photographer. Her internships and involvement in campus exhibitions reflect her dedication and growth in the field.

Nastya Sidorova, originally from Moscow, is completing her master’s in higher education administration. She has participated in meaningful projects like the Sustainability Fellows Program, combining her passion for education with community development. “It’s about more than just a degree; it’s about growth and cultural adaptation,” she said, highlighting her inspiring journey.

As FSU celebrates these graduates, it’s more than just an ending—it’s a new beginning filled with potential. Each story reflects not just achievements, but also the enduring impact these graduates will have in their communities and the world.
