Back in October, I reported on the Inspira Groundbreaking Ceremony at the Mullica Hill Medical Center. Fast forward to this week, and Inspira celebrated a major milestone: the “topping off” ceremony for the final steel beam of their new five-story, 150,000 square foot expansion!
The event brought together Inspira Health System executives, board members, staff, local elected officials, and the construction team. Many attendees signed the last steel beam, which was then lifted into place atop the new building.
“We are thrilled to reach this pivotal point in this project and exceptionally grateful to those who have helped with its construction. This expansion reaffirms our commitment to meeting the evolving needs of South Jersey communities and reducing access disparities to quality medical care.”
Amy B. Mansue, President and CEO of Inspira Health.
This construction not only adds the large expansion, but also includes an “overbuild” addition near the main entrance, bringing the total new space to 168,000 square feet. The project will also renovate existing areas and create new parking options.
With these additions, Inspira plans to boost and expand services in Oncology, Neurology, Cardiology, Maternity Care, and more.
The speed of this project is quite remarkable! Often, we hear frustrations about the slow pace of development in the area. Yet, here we have Inspira completing a major expansion faster than many smaller projects get approved!
According to a press release from Inspira, the project represents a significant $240 million investment in the local economy. It’s expected to create 500 construction jobs and over 100 permanent positions after completion.
They anticipate the new wing will open in early 2027, responding to the community’s growing healthcare needs.
“The placing of the final steel beam for this expansion demonstrates our determination to meet the region’s ongoing demand for healthcare resources. Our average occupancy rate ranges from 87% to 93%, highlighting the increasing healthcare needs of our community.”
Warren E. Moore, Executive Vice President and COO of Inspira Health.
Inspira is not just expanding at Mullica Hill; they are also growing across South Jersey. Recently, they opened the $72 million Woodbury Pavilion, which includes a new satellite emergency room and inpatient behavioral health services.
This April, they celebrated the grand opening of the Health Center in Deptford, a two-story medical facility built in what used to be a Dick’s Sporting Goods store.
Looking ahead, there are plans for a comprehensive redevelopment of the former Inspira Underwood Hospital in Woodbury, still under analysis for future development.
With all these initiatives, Inspira is dedicated to enhancing healthcare services for local residents.
