The MSU Foundation has introduced the Bernie Lewis and Ella K. Click Lewis Memorial Scholarship Endowment. This scholarship highlights the couple’s journey and dedication to education.

Bernie Lewis, a Class of 1972 graduate, grew up on a farm in Morgan County. Although he faced challenges in his early education, including being held back multiple grades, Bernie remained determined. With encouragement from his mother and a supportive principal named Elmer Anderson, Bernie applied for financial aid to attend college.

During his time at MSU, Bernie met Ella Click at church. When they married, Ella was still in high school. After graduating with a degree in industrial engineering, Bernie started working as a maintenance foreman and plant engineer. However, he shifted his focus to support Ella in her educational journey.

After some time as a stay-at-home wife, Ella decided to pursue her education. She earned degrees and certifications from the University of the Cumberlands, Union College, and Eastern Kentucky University.

The couple built a fulfilling life together, including many travel adventures. Sadly, Bernie faced health complications from a childhood illness and passed away in 1985.

In memory of Bernie’s commitment to education and his support for Ella, she established the scholarship fund at MSU. Inspired by their love for Morehead State and the pride shared by their relatives, Santana and Nichola Bobrowski, Ella wanted to help future Eagles succeed in their studies.

This scholarship will benefit undergraduate or graduate students from Morgan County, encouraging them as they pursue their academic goals.
