Three standout student-athletes from Central Washington University made the Academic All-District Team, as announced by College Sports Communicators (CSC). The honored players are Brooke Baker, McKayla Cable, and Kasi Thomas. Among them, McKayla Cable has the chance to advance to the Academic All-American voting, with results set to come out on June 16.
The Academic All-District Teams highlight the best student-athletes in the U.S. for their achievements both in sports and academics. This program includes different levels, recognizing excellence across NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA.
Spotlight on the Players:
McKayla Cable: This sophomore from Albuquerque, N.M., boasts an impressive GPA of 3.87. Currently undecided on her major, she led the Wildcats this season with a .426 batting average, racking up 69 hits, 10 doubles, one home run, and 27 RBIs, along with a perfect record in stolen bases.
Brooke Baker: A junior from Bothell, Wash., Baker has a 3.73 GPA in Elementary Education. She earned recognition as a Second Team All-West Region utility pitcher and had a strong offensive performance, hitting .343 with 37 hits and 28 RBIs. She pitched in 19 games with a record of 1-4.
Kasi Thomas: This sophomore from Lynden, Wash., stands out with a perfect 4.0 GPA in Business Administration. She hit .333 this season with 34 hits, including 10 doubles and a home run, driving in 24 RBIs and maintaining a perfect record in stolen bases.
Recent studies show a growing trend in college athletics where academic achievements are celebrated alongside sports performance. According to a 2022 NCAA report, nearly 80% of student-athletes earn a degree within six years, highlighting the commitment many athletes have to their education.
