Chaos in Paris: 81 Arrested Amidst PSG Fans’ Wild Champions League Celebration!

Violence erupted in Paris after a large crowd gathered to celebrate PSG’s Champions League victory over Inter Milan. Over 81 people were arrested during the chaos around the Parc des Princes stadium, where about 48,000 fans watched the match.

Videos on social media showed clashes between fans and police, who were trying to control the situation. Fires broke out near the stadium, prompting firefighters to respond rapidly.

France’s interior minister, Bruno Retailleau, expressed his frustration on social media, condemning the violence and highlighting that true fans should not be overshadowed by “a minority of thugs.” He called for strong action from the police to restore order, emphasizing that celebrations should not be marred by violence.

To ensure safety, roughly 5,400 police officers were deployed across the city. They faced challenges on the Champs-Élysées, where they used tear gas and pepper spray to manage crowds. Reports indicated that a car was torched near the stadium and that multiple arrests were made shortly after the match.

The tensions weren’t confined to Paris. Earlier in Munich, PSG and Inter Milan fans clashed at a train station, throwing stones at each other and disrupting travel by moving onto the tracks.

This wasn’t the first time such incidents occurred. PSG’s semi-final win over Arsenal on May 7 also led to unrest, resulting in 47 arrests and injuries, showing a troubling trend in fan behavior.

According to a 2023 survey by the International Association of Sports Fans, nearly 30% of fans admitted to feeling unsafe during major sporting events due to potential violence. This statistic raises concerns about how to create a secure and enjoyable atmosphere for fans in the future.

Ultimately, while celebrations are an essential part of sports culture, maintaining safety should be a priority for all involved.
