RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Grammy-winning singer Chappell Roan recently spoke out after Brazilian-Italian soccer star Jorginho accused a security guard of mistreating his 11-year-old stepdaughter. The incident occurred while the family stayed at the same hotel in São Paulo as Roan, who was in Brazil for the Lollapalooza festival.
Jorginho shared on Instagram that during breakfast, his daughter recognized Roan and got excited. He said, “She didn’t say anything, didn’t ask for anything,” but a security guard approached the family aggressively.
Jorginho felt that Roan did not deserve the love of her fans after this experience.
In her response on Instagram, Roan clarified that the security guard was not part of her team and that she didn’t see anyone being upset. “It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions,” she wrote, emphasizing her love for her fans.
Rio’s new mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, also weighed in, stating that Roan would not perform on Copacabana Beach, unlike other stars such as Madonna and Shakira. He even mentioned that Jorginho’s daughter would be a guest of honor at Shakira’s upcoming concert.
Roan, known for her vibrant drag-inspired style, gained fame with popular tracks from her album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. She won a Grammy for Best New Artist earlier this year, affirming her place in the music scene.
After the controversy, Jorginho reassured fans by sharing a video of his daughter enjoying Sabrina Carpenter’s performance at Lollapalooza. “Everything is well with the girls,” he said.
