Charles and Baldwin Shine at CIAA Awards: Celebrating Winston-Salem State University’s Achievements!

Winston-Salem, N.C. – This week, two standout players from the Winston-Salem State University women’s basketball team received honors from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).

Sophomore Maia Charles from Saint Albans, New York, shined as the CIAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. She played a key role in her team’s impressive 100-49 win against Virginia University of Lynchburg. Charles had a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Notably, she went 4 for 11 from the field and hit all six of her free throws. Her game was further highlighted by three blocks and three steals, showcasing her defensive skills as well.

Freshman Amari Kilgore-Baldwin from Albermarle, North Carolina, earned the title of CIAA Rookie of the Week. In the same game, she contributed solidly with 12 points, three rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Her defensive pressure was crucial, creating several scoring opportunities for her teammates.

The Lady Rams will take on Bluefield University tomorrow, January 7, at 5:30 p.m. at the C.E. Gaines Center.
