Charlotte Food Lion Employee Assaulted While Confronting Suspected Shoplifters: What You Need to Know

Detectives in Charlotte, N.C., are seeking help to identify two individuals connected to a theft and assault at a local Food Lion. The incident occurred on October 20 at the store on Park Road.

According to Detective Ashley Phillips from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Crime Stoppers, two people were trying to steal items at the self-checkout when an 18-year-old employee confronted them. Surveillance footage shows one suspect confronting the employee and leading him into a back room before an altercation took place. A nearby shopper attempted to intervene.

Unfortunately, the suspects managed to leave the store with stolen items. Phillips commented on the rising concerns over self-checkout areas. “These setups can create opportunities for thieves, leading to acts of violence that are senseless,” she said.

For employees facing similar situations, Phillips advised caution. She suggested observing from a distance, gathering as much information as possible, and contacting the police instead of confronting potential criminals directly.

Phillips expressed hope that someone might recognize the thieves from the footage. “The images are clear, and we’re grateful for any tips,” she noted.
