Chastain is gearing up for her fifth season in 2025. Her leadership shone in 2024, leading the Gophers to one of their best seasons ever. The team posted an impressive record of 14 wins, 5 losses, and 3 draws. They finished the season ranked No. 17 nationally. Notably, Chastain celebrated her 150th career win with a solid 3-0 defeat of Michigan. The Gophers were especially strong at home, going undefeated with a record of 7 wins and 2 draws, a feat they hadn’t achieved since 2008.
Throughout the season, Minnesota secured three remarkable wins against top-25 teams, beating No. 8 Ohio State, No. 11 Iowa, and No. 14 South Carolina. They also managed to hold No. 24 Southern California to a draw, handing the Trojans their only non-win during the regular season.
After a successful regular season, Minnesota reached the NCAA Tournament. They started strong, winning the first round against South Dakota State 2-0. The team continued their impressive run by defeating South Carolina in the Chapel Hill Regional, advancing to the Sweet 16. Their journey ended there, as they faced North Carolina, the eventual champions.
Under Chastain’s guidance, several players gained significant recognition. Khyah Harper earned multiple honors, including the United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American award and Big Ten Forward of the Year. She was also a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, marking a first for Minnesota. Other Gophers recognized by the Big Ten include Sophia Boman, Paige Kalal, Ashley Thurk, and Elizabeth Overberg.
In addition to athletic achievements, many players excelled academically. Boman, Harper, and Overberg were named CSC Academic All-Americans. They, along with teammates Kate Childers, Evelyn Calhoon, and Sophia Romine, also received CSC Academic All-Region honors. Overall, 17 Gophers made it to the Academic All-Big Ten list.
