Check out real-life AI prototypes from the Futures Lab.

The Google-funded Futures Lab, in collaboration with the University of Waterloo, is developing innovative educational tools through an intensive eight-week AI and user experience prototyping workshop. Students from various disciplines are creating applications aimed at enhancing learning experiences.

Notable projects from recent lab sessions include:

  • Kanji Garden: An application designed to teach Japanese using immersive, AI-generated stories and visuals, moving away from traditional rote memorization.
  • SignFluent: A tool for learning American Sign Language that offers real-time feedback on users’ signing forms.
  • MuscleMemory: An AI-assisted calisthenics training app that employs camera tracking to deliver instant audio feedback on exercise form, aimed at reducing injury risks.

Dr. Edith Law, the Google Chair in the Future of Work and Learning, oversees this initiative, which focuses on empowering students to collaborate in creating technology intended to shape the future of education and work.

Demonstrations of these projects highlight students’ insights and their practical applications in modern learning environments.
