Chef Blake Zeitman Triumphs in the Exciting Pantry to Plate Challenge!

Chef Blake Zeitman has been named the 2026 Pantry to Plate Champion after an exciting competition that supported the Brazos Valley Food Bank. The event featured three local chefs who transformed standard food pantry items into gourmet dishes right before a live audience.

This year’s Pantry to Plate challenge was a hit, bringing in about $80,000 for the food bank. Blake, who owns Damiano’s Cucina Italiana in Navasota, said this year felt different for him. “I had a better idea of what to expect,” he shared, reflecting on his experience from the previous year.

Blake focused on developing rich flavors from the start. “I made sure the water was boiling for the pasta, so I could get that perfect al dente texture,” he explained. With some community support, he managed to incorporate a quart of heavy cream into his dish, which he described as a mix between chicken casserole and chicken pot pie, all with pasta.

His winning dish may soon be featured on Damiano’s menu. Blake proudly stated that the Brazos Valley Food Bank was the first charity he supported after moving to the area.

Cooking competitions like this don’t just showcase culinary skills; they bring communities together for a good cause. Events such as Pantry to Plate highlight the impact of local initiatives on hunger relief. In recent years, food banks across the U.S. have seen a significant increase in demand. According to the Feeding America 2022 report, food insecurity affected 10.5% of U.S. households, underlining the importance of fundraising events like this.

As public interest in local foods and community support surges, initiatives like Pantry to Plate are becoming more popular. They provide a fun way to engage with the community while addressing serious issues like food scarcity.

Chef Blake’s journey reflects a growing trend of chefs using their talents to give back, inspiring others in the culinary world to follow suit. For more about food insecurity solutions, you can check out the Feeding America report.

With chefs like Blake at the helm, there’s hope that local efforts will continue to make a difference in fighting hunger.
