On Sunday night at the Critics’ Choice Awards, host Chelsea Handler honored the late Rob Reiner while also throwing some playful jabs at celebrities and Hollywood bigwigs. One highlight was a dig at rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, her former boyfriend, relating to his Netflix series focusing on Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Handler and Jackson had a brief fling about a decade ago. Their two-month relationship sparked after Jackson appeared on her talk show. He won her over with flowers, and Handler once called him her “favorite ex.” But that didn’t spare him from Handler’s quip about Jackson’s Netflix film, Sean Combs: The Reckoning. Jackson has downplayed his rivalry with Combs in recent interviews, but Handler couldn’t resist the chance for a laugh.
Handler joked, “The cast of KPop Demon Hunters is here,” then added, “not to be confused with Netflix’s other music movie, 50 Cent: Diddy Hunter.”
This week marked the release of the four-part series about Combs, which features interviews with people close to him. It dives into major events, including the murder of Biggie Smalls and Combs’ legal troubles. In July, Combs faced a federal trial that ended with a split verdict, resulting in a 50-month prison sentence.
Though Jackson usually jumps into social media feuds, he hasn’t responded to Handler’s joke yet. However, he did comment on another project related to Diddy— a docuseries from The Zeus Network focusing on Combs’ sons, Justin and Christian, set against the backdrop of their father’s legal issues.
In the trailer released on December 29, the Combs brothers are shown watching coverage of their father’s trial. They appear emotional as they face the press outside the courthouse. A phone rings, indicating a call from their dad, who is currently incarcerated.
After the trailer dropped, Jackson shared a doctored audio clip from it, which includes a woman’s legal complaint against Christian Combs. The complaint accuses him of committing assault against a yacht staff member in 2022.
Grace O’Marcaigh’s civil lawsuit claims that Christian assaulted her during a family holiday in St. Martin. Diddy is also named in the suit. According to the allegations, while on the yacht, Christian forced O’Marcaigh to drink a spiked drink and cornered her in a room.
In response to these allegations, both Sean Combs and Christian Combs have denied any wrongdoing. Their attorney describes the lawsuits as opportunistic. Nonetheless, Sean Combs is now dealing with numerous civil lawsuits, and the public eye remains firmly on him.
This incident speaks to the harsh spotlight that celebrities often find themselves under, especially when legal issues emerge. As social media continues to amplify these stories, fans and followers remain keenly interested, sharing reactions and opinions online.
