Chelsea Leaves Djordje Petrovic Out of Club World Cup Squad: Kendry Paez Set for Exciting Loan to Strasbourg

Djordje Petrovic will not be part of Chelsea’s Club World Cup squad, and he’s not the only one left out. Kendry Paez is also missing as he prepares for a loan to Strasbourg, a club owned by the same group as Chelsea.

Paez, who transferred from Independiente Del Valle at just 16, is set to make his move to Stamford Bridge. However, he won’t join the squad as he will focus on his loan at Strasbourg, where he can gain valuable experience.

Interestingly, Petrovic also won’t be traveling to the U.S. for the tournament. Chelsea recently dropped their interest in AC Milan’s goalkeeper Mike Maignan, opting to choose Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, and new signing Mike Penders as their goalkeepers. Penders had a year with Genk before returning to Chelsea.

Chelsea is taking a strategic approach with their goalkeeping situation. Reports from The Athletic indicate that Petrovic is attracting interest from several European clubs, which could lead to changes in their squad as they won’t keep four goalkeepers for the upcoming season.

In contrast, Andrey Santos, who was also loaned out to Strasbourg last season, has made the squad for Chelsea. Other notable loanees like Joao Felix and Raheem Sterling are not included as the team narrows its focus.

The decision reflects Chelsea’s desire to streamline their group. They want to avoid having too many players whose futures are uncertain and keep a competitive edge as they approach the Club World Cup, viewing it as an extension of their ongoing Premier League season.

New signings Liam Delap, Dario Essugo, and Mamadou Sarr have made the cut and will travel.
